Afghan melons

The kharbuzeh is a large Afghan melon, not unlike a honeydew in flavor and texture, that can grow as heavy as 25 lbs.

Find it in season in August at Hafizullah Gawhary's Kabul Market, 512 S. Van Dorn St, Alexandria, 703 212 8400, flown in from Arizona, where it's grown from Afghan seeds.
