Baskin Robbins' French Vanilla is no more!

It doesn't matter how inventive an ice cream company gets (consider the wacky concoctions from Jen & Berry's, as I know them). Bottom line, if you can't make a decent vanilla or a decent chocolate, then the rest of your flavors won't be much good.

So does Baskin Robbins suspect its French Vanilla is no great shakes? Because to celebrate its 65th birthday, it's taking the flavor off the market. Along with Caramel Praline Cheesecake, Campfire S'mores, Apple Pie à La Mode, and Superfudge Truffle.

If you need a frozen vanilla flavored fix, just head down to The Dairy Godmother in Alexandria. It's really, really hard to beat Liz Davis's frozen custard there for its terrific vanilla boost and rich, unctuous creaminess. Far better than ice cream...
