Chew On This: Chicken can make you fatter than red meat
People who eat meat gain more weight over 5 years than those who don't, a new study finds. And the meat that will make you gain the most is not red meat, not processed meat, but chicken!
It's not a huge amount of weight loss on a personal level - just a pound a year over the period, though for every additional half-pound of meat, a 450-calorie steak as it might be, more than usual daily consumption, the weight gain would be 4.4 pounds more on top. So say researchers from Imperial College London who studied over 100,000 and 270,000 women from 10 different European nations.
So, to those people who believe that a high-protein diet is good for weight loss, listen up: if you cut your meat consumption by around half a pound daily, you could lose roughly 4 pounds in 5 years without doing anything else - like exercise! Or giving up cakes and candy! And just imagine what it would do for the number of cows currently awaiting their deaths being stuffed full of corn on the feedlots...
