Watercress won't make you thin any more than will the acai berry. But it's a good winter salad or soup vegetable and seems to be another of those 'superfoods'. Apparently it can increase the ability of cells to resist damage to their DNA and protect against cell changes that can lead to cancer. Even greater, it seems, is its protective effect upon smokers.

Watercress is a cruciferous vegetable, which means it's one of the cabbage family. So this cold winter, fill yourself with cabbage soups, watercress soups and and thinly sliced cabbage and watercress salads.

When it comes to diets, bear in mind that while the cabbage soup diet is no better for you than any other quick weight loss method, it's a lot cheaper than the acai berry diet which does nothing but thin out your bank account. Plus it's a great deal more filling. And whether you're hoping to lose weight through them or are just enjoying them, cabbage and watercress soups may be bringing protection to parts of your body you don't get to see, unless while chopping up your produce with a blunt knife you manage to cut yourself.
