Mochi - a Japanese dessert

Mochi, a Japanese ice cream covered in dough, has developed a broad fan base.It makes for a very different dessert...

But strictly speaking, mochi is the wrong name for it. Mochi is traditional the word for a rice cake made from steamed glutinous rice pounded into a sticky dough. This is then filled with a variety of sweets from red bean paste, sesame, ground peanuts, and more.

Mochi ice-cream is a 'novelty' food item developed by Mikawaya and introduced in 1993 as an ice cream,

Mochi is on the menu at Teaism and is also sold, in Green Tea, Vanilla and Mango flavors, at branches of Trader Joe's, Hana Japanese Supermarket on 17t and U Sts NW, and Daruma, a wonderful Japanese supermarket in Bethesda.
