The dish - Goings on in the capital

Apologies: I'm in transit between Europe and Washington DC, so can't readily access my press release announcements of what's on this coming week. (Have YOU tried the Wi-fi set up at Stansted Airport? Don't bother.) But here's an early suggestion for putting in the calendar. Diana Kennedy, legendary authority on Mexican cooking, author of the definitive Essential Cuisines of Mexico - which combined her original Cuisines of Mexico, Mexican Regional Cooking and The Tortilla Book into one - will be in town on a rare visit from Mexico for the Day of the Dead celebrations from October 27 to November 3.

Although the special events are still to be formalized she will be on hand on the Day itself to meet her enthusiasts. Her dishes will feature over the period on the menu of Oyamel, one of Jose Andres' stable of restaurants whose head chef is Joe Raffa.
